Who/what is EFAA?

EFAA is the Emergency Family Assistance Association, Boulder’s own family resource center.

What is a family resource center?

A family resource center serves as an access point for services tailored to the needs of the communities they serve in order to help families achieve personal and family sustainability.

Services at Boulder’s EFAA include:

Basic Needs

Addresses the immediate needs of all those who come to EFAA in financial crisis, helping them avert homelessness and hunger with food from our Food Bank; direct financial assistance (DFA) for rent, utilities, transportation, and minor medical needs; strengths-based case management and referrals to outside resources; and on-site behavioral health and nutritional counseling.

Family Housing

EFAA is the leading provider of housing for families with children experiencing homelessness in Boulder County. With 55 single family units across 7 sites throughout the County EFAA provides temporary housing with a focus on working with families during their stay to move into permanent, affordable housing upon exit. Short-Term Housing provides families with an apartment and intensive case management for a period of 6–12 weeks. All housing-related expenses are covered by EFAA and participants save a portion of their income for their future deposit and rent. Our Transitional Housing provides up to two years of subsidized rent paired with case management support.

Intensive Family Strengthening

Offering the most concentrated level of support to our participants and aimed at alleviating poverty for the next generation, EFAA has expanded programming to go deeper with families with children. Targeted investments have focused on housing stability through programs, like Keep Families Housed, Bringing School Home, and Housing Stabilization Program, and income and wages through our Job Uptake for Motivated Partners (JUMP) Program.

Children, Youth, and Families

Addressing the needs of our community’s most vulnerable, EFAA offers specialized children’s programming to ensure every child is happy, healthy and thriving. Children’s Case Managers help resource parents to ensure that children’s medical, emotional and development needs are being met. Children in our Housing Program are also invited to participate in our Kid’s Club—our in-house after-school enrichment program aimed at alleviating the toxic stress of

Homelessness.

Community Enrichment
Launched in 2017, EFAA provides participants opportunities to learn and connect—expanding their skillsets through educational workshops and broadening their social networks through community events. We continue to build out these offerings in partnership with other community organizations, including Getting Ahead, a 12-week program promoting economic mobility.
